We are excited to announce that Spyros Artavanis-Tsakonas  has been named one of the 2025 Canada Gairdner International Award recipients!  The Gairdner Foundation recognizes some of the world’s most significant biomedical and global health research and discoveries.

Spyros shares the award with Iva Greenwald, Ph.D. and Gary Struhl, Ph.D., both of Columbia University, for pioneering work on the Notch signaling pathway, which has significantly contributed to our understanding of how cells communicate with each other during development; how these signals regulate cell fate determination; and how disruption can lead to developmental defects and cancer.

Enjoy this 5-minute video of Spyros, Iva, and Gary talking about their work (and the importance of basic research!):

Congrats again to Spyros!
